Summer Camp is just around the corner and I have attached some information to help you make preparations. We will discuss this information, and more, in greater detail at the Pre-Camp Informational Meeting on June 25th. Please mark your calendars now to be present at that important meeting.
Transportation - If you are an adult leader, 21 and over, and are driving to camp, please let me know how many passengers you can accommodate in your vehicle. Remember that we will have the Korn truck to haul gear. We would like to be able to save money by not renting a bus.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Relief Project for Scouts in Greensburg Kansas

Troop 1900 Coordinates Effort to Help Units in Greensburg

Jeff Cook, SM for Troop 1900 and the Patrol Leader's Council for Troop 1900 are undertaking a project to assist Pack and Troop 211 in Greensburg, Kansas. Both Troop and Pack 211 lost everything - their building, equipment, clothing, trailer, etc., in the EF-5 Tornado that struck their town on 5/3/2007. Troop 1900 has requested the council's assistance with getting the word out to the Heart of America Council Scouting community. Here is their outline of the project.

Mission: Boy Scout Troop 1900's Patrol Leader's Council voted unanimously on 5/14/2007 to help coordinate and lead the volunteer relief efforts for Troop and Pack 211 in Greensburg, KS. It is important that we begin the relief effort as soon as possible so we can help them resume their Scouting program as soon as they are ready.

According to Quivira Council Scout Executive Fred Meijering, here are the priorities that are needed for the units (based on a conversation with Mr. Meijering on 5/7/2007):

1). Financial Needs: Finances are a priority for reestablishing Troop and Pack 211. If you would like to make a financial contribution, checks need to be made payable to "Quivira Scout Council" with the comment line reading "Troop/Pack 211 Relief Fund." The timeline for this is from now until the end of May and the need is urgent.

2). Clothing Needs: We are coordinating an "experienced" uniform drive to provide for the Greensburg Scouts. Sizes needed for their Boy Scouts will range from Youth Medium up to Adult X- Large, and size 6-8 through Adult Small for their Cub Scouts/Webelos. Please remove all patches (except for the American Flag and World Crest), and be sure that the fabric is not torn. Please wash the uniforms before contributing. We would like to complete this step by June 30th.

3). Equipment Needs: Any unit wishing to donate experienced patrol boxes, camp boxes, cast iron, lanterns, tents and tarps, dining flies, etc., will be graciously accepted. If you have a troop trailer that is no longer needed it will be accepted as a donation as long as the trailer is in serviceable condition and can make the trip to Southwestern Kansas. Our goal is to have the equipment donated by July 15th.

Our initial collection point for uniforms and equipment is North Oak Christian Church, 9900 North Oak Trafficway in Kansas City North. Additional sites may be necessary and added as needed, please be flexible as we may need your help with very little notice. Once we have collected equipment, and clothing we may need help delivering it to the Quivira Council office in Wichita. The Quivira Council office is serving as a collection point until further notice.
