* Once again this year, I am putting out a plea for clean up help. While I know cleanup isn't fun, if everyone pitches in until the work is done, it goes much faster! For providing the location and equipments, we have promised to return the banquet centers and cook stoves and dishes to their original condition.
Thanks!

Fw: Troop 42: Bake Sale Donations
From: David Cudmore <cudbey@hotmail.com>
Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2007 7:24:40 PM
We could still use more items. Could you please send out a note to encourage people to sign up? They can either call me at 217-6601 or e-mail at cudbey@hotmail.com. Also, if you could remind everyone that their scout gets credit for items brought. For example, 3 dozen cookies equals one hour of work. Items should be brought to the church Friday night at 7:00 p.m. or early Saturday morning to the pancake breakfast. Thanks so much! Patty Cudmore

Troop 42: A few things about the pancake breakfast. . .
* Pancake breakfast ticket money can be turned at Monday's meeting
(April 23rd). In order to receive credit in scout accounts for the
ticket sales, money must be turned in by Friday, April 27th. Remember
all tickets must be either returned or paid for.
* Parents who are soliciting donations are asked to contact me as
soon as possible (Monday would be great!) on the status of donations. I
will be out of town on Friday, so I will be making purchases for items
not donated on Thursday. Therefore I need finalized information by
Wednesday evening!
* On Friday night, April 27th, the following items should be
delivered to Oakwood Baptist Church:
1. At 7:00 - all donated items - if you cannot be at the church at
that time and have items that need to be picked up, please call me by
Wednesday evening so that we may arrange pickup (home 350-1340 or cell
803-1437).
2. As close to 7:00 as possible, all bake sale items. Bake sale (special request on separate e-mail)
items should be packaged as follows:
* Cookies - 3 cookies per baggie
* Brownies or muffins - 2 per baggie
* Cupcakes - 2 per baggie
* Rice krispie treats, breads, cakes, and pies - individually
wrapped.
3. Between 7:00 and 8:00, all ticket money or unsold tickets
* Friday prep night will begin at 7:00 at Oakwood Baptist Church.
At this time, we will do food prep for Saturday, write thank you notes
and make posters to acknowledge our contributors. For Friday evening,
the following scouts and parents have volunteered to help. Please be
sure to sign in and out so that we may credit you with the appropriate
work time. The sign in sheet will be at the bake sale table. We could
definitely use more help on Friday night!

Fw: Pack 42 Bear Cubs Den needs our help
From: Becky S. Wait <rsw12@meadwestvaco.com>
Sent: Monday, April 16, 2007 11:34:17 AM
Hi,
I'm the den leader for Pack 42 Bear cubs and I'm wondering if you know of any of the leaders in the Troop who were cub scouts years ago? I need to find someone to talk to the boys about cub scouting in the past. Any help you can give would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Becky

Court:’2010’Jamboree’can’go’forward
FROM THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA TODAY:
Boy Scouts of America is pleased that the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit dismissed the ACLU’s lawsuit against the Department of Defense for supporting the National Scout Jamboree.
For more than 25 years, Boy Scouts have held the National Scout Jamboree every four years at Fort A.P. Hill near Fredericksburg, Virginia. Scouts from all over the country camp together for ten days and participate in activities emphasizing physical fitness, appreciation of the outdoors, and patriotism. Seven Presidents have attended the Jamboree since President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937. The Jamboree grounds at Fort A.P. Hill are open to the public, and an estimated 300,000 visitors attended in 2005 along with 43,000 Scouts and their leaders. The 2010 Jamboree will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouts of America.
Nevertheless, the ACLU sued the Department of Defense in 1999 over its support for the Jamboree. In 2005, a federal district court in Chicago concluded the Jamboree statute (10 U.S.C. § 2554) was unconstitutional under the Establishment Clause because Scouting has a nonsectarian “duty to God” requirement. DoD appealed the district court’s injunction against military support under that statute for the 2010 Jamboree.
In today’s ruling, the federal Court of Appeals in Chicago reversed the district court’s decision, concluding that the taxpayers named as the plaintiffs in the lawsuit did not have standing to sue DoD in the first place.
REACTION FROM FOCUS ON THE FAMILY:
Bruce Hausknecht, judicial analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said the 7th Circuit correctly rejected the notion that any taxpayer with a generalized grievance over the federal government’s support of Scouting can use the federal courts as a personal veto tool.
“This national obsession by atheists, secularists and homosexual activists with the Boy Scouts over the years has been disgraceful,” he said, “in light of the contributions that organization has made to our national life since its inception here in 1910.”
