Troop 42 Pancake Breakfast reminders

Come to the church tonight (4/27) at 7:00pm to help with the Pancake Breakfast preparation. More help means less time to prepare.
We should be doing fairly well with bake sale items, but if you'd like to donate, contact Patty Cudmore at 217-6601 or e-mail her at cudbey@hotmail.com.
Scouts get credit for items brought. For example, 3 dozen cookies equals one hour of work. Items should be brought to the church tonight at 7:00 p.m. or early Saturday morning to the pancake breakfast.
* Pancake breakfast ticket money must be turned in tonight. In order to receive credit in scout accounts for the ticket sales, money must be turned in by tonight. Remember: all tickets must be either returned or paid for (bring in any unsold tickets).

* The following items should be delivered to Oakwood Baptist Church tonight:
1. At 7:00 - all donated items.

2. As close to 7:00 as possible, all bake sale items. Bake sale items should be packaged as follows:
* Cookies - 3 cookies per baggie
* Brownies or muffins - 2 per baggie
* Cupcakes - 2 per baggie
* Rice krispie treats, breads, cakes, and pies - individually wrapped.

3. Between 7:00 and 8:00, all ticket money and/or unsold tickets

* Prep will begin at 7:00 at Oakwood Baptist Church. At this time, we will do food prep for Saturday, write thank you notes and make posters to acknowledge our contributors.
For Friday evening, the following scouts and parents have volunteered to help. Please be sure to sign in and out so that we may credit you with the appropriate work time. The sign in sheet will be at the bake sale table. We could definitely use more help on Friday night!

Hi,

I'm the den leader for Pack 42 Bear cubs and I'm wondering if you know of any of the leaders in the Troop who were cub scouts years ago? I need to find someone to talk to the boys about cub scouting in the past. Any help you can give would be appreciated!

Thanks,

At tonight's meeting we will be distributing bags for Scouting for Food.  We have approximately 800 bags to distribute and need your help.  Not only do we need Scout participation but we need 8 - 10 drivers (more would make the job go faster).  We will also need help this Saturday, April 14th to collect the food.

Your participation is appreciated.

Also, if you have not made your final Scout Camp payment or the next Philmont payment please see Mr. Walker TONIGHT.  Both of those payments were due last week.  We need the camp days for part-time adults as well.

Court:’2010’Jamboree’can’go’forward

FROM THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA TODAY:

Boy Scouts of America is pleased that the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit dismissed the ACLU’s lawsuit against the Department of Defense for supporting the National Scout Jamboree.

For more than 25 years, Boy Scouts have held the National Scout Jamboree every four years at Fort A.P. Hill near Fredericksburg, Virginia. Scouts from all over the country camp together for ten days and participate in activities emphasizing physical fitness, appreciation of the outdoors, and patriotism. Seven Presidents have attended the Jamboree since President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937. The Jamboree grounds at Fort A.P. Hill are open to the public, and an estimated 300,000 visitors attended in 2005 along with 43,000 Scouts and their leaders. The 2010 Jamboree will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouts of America.

Nevertheless, the ACLU sued the Department of Defense in 1999 over its support for the Jamboree. In 2005, a federal district court in Chicago concluded the Jamboree statute (10 U.S.C. § 2554) was unconstitutional under the Establishment Clause because Scouting has a nonsectarian “duty to God” requirement. DoD appealed the district court’s injunction against military support under that statute for the 2010 Jamboree.

In today’s ruling, the federal Court of Appeals in Chicago reversed the district court’s decision, concluding that the taxpayers named as the plaintiffs in the lawsuit did not have standing to sue DoD in the first place.

REACTION FROM FOCUS ON THE FAMILY:
Bruce Hausknecht, judicial analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said the 7th Circuit correctly rejected the notion that any taxpayer with a generalized grievance over the federal government’s support of Scouting can use the federal courts as a personal veto tool.

“This national obsession by atheists, secularists and homosexual activists with the Boy Scouts over the years has been disgraceful,” he said, “in light of the contributions that organization has made to our national life since its inception here in 1910.”

Mic-O-Say's Tribal Celebration
Mark your calendars

The Tribe of Mic-O-Say has become an important part of the lives of over 65,000 Scouts and Scouters who have heard their names called to take the long and hazardous trail. The Hills of Osceola are calling you back to celebrate Mic-O-Say's role in our council. Registeration for this wondful Mic-O-Say Tradition to be held June 1-3, 2007 has begun. This is your opportunity to participate with Tribesmen returning to our reservation.

In 2007 the Trailhead District leadership is committed to providing a Quality Scouting program for every youth in Eastern Johnson County. In addition to the Heart of America Council's 2007 priorities, we have developed several themes for the year to focus on.

1. Training- Every Youth Deserves a Trained Leader: "More Knots for Everyone"

2. Helping- Our District Committee and Commissioner Staffs are committed to providing help, ideas, and best methods to all volunteer leaders: "No Unit Left Behind"

3. Delivering- Our goal is to make sure every youth is delivered a quality program: "Is it good for the Scouts?"
