| Dear Steve, It's mid-summer and while much of the Scouting activity revolves around Summer Camp and Day Camp, it is time to plan for the fall. This issue of ENews offers some ways to "Be Prepared" as well some new features to check out on the National Council's websites. Find more information about these stories by clicking the links and visiting the sites! | "Back to the Pack!" | | Get your Program off to a Great Start! We are encouraging every pack to conduct a "Back to The Pack!" meeting in July or August for all of your existing members. This meeting should be held prior to your School Night for Scouting. The purpose of this meeting is to be sure that returning members are signed up and ready to go for the upcoming Scouting year, take the opportunity to recruit people to fill any vacancies in pack leadership and discuss plans for pack activities in the fall. We encourage you to make this a fun event for your returning Scouts and parents. Some great ideas might include an ice cream social, watemelon feast, pool party, or carnival sports. The meeting is designed to make sure that your pack is organized prior to recruiting new boys and parents. | | KC Philanthropist Honored as Distinguished Citizen | | | The Heart of America Council's 2007 Distinguished Citizen, Julia Irene Kauffman joins a select group of civic and business leaders recognized by the Boy Scouts of America. Julia has been a long time advocate of the Boy Scouts of America. This stems from her father Ewing Marion Kauffman's passion for the organization. She continues the family tradition by providing ongoing support for our Urban Scouting program. | | Boys' Life Website Redesigned | | | The redesigned Boys' Life website, www.boyslife.org, is full of Scouting information, advancement help, gear buyer's guides, how-to projects, and a variety of online games for boys of all ages.
